Art psychotherapy is a type of psychotherapy which uses different forms of mark making to create a dialogue between the client and the therapist. This non-verbal communication is explored further through verbal dialogue with a view to understanding and healing emotional issues.

Clients do not need any previous experience or skill in art. Art psychotherapy is not about making aesthetically pleasing images; it is simply a tool that enables the client to access their unconscious mind, allowing them to explore unresolved issues and conflicts in their lives.
